Incest, Prostitution and the Father of the Faith

"She really is my sister...and she became my wife." Abraham

As Abraham travelled, he would tell his wife Sarah to pretend she was his sister whenever they came upon a new city. She must have been a rare beauty as it became common for the King's of these various places to take her into their harems whenever they clapped eyes on her. Abraham asked this of Sarah as a way of showing her love for him. He knew that he would be a dead man if it were discovered that the foxy Sarah was his wife. After one such episode, they approach Gerar and again Sarah is taken as one of the King's concubines: “Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her. But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night and said to him, "You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman." Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he said, "Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation? Did he not say to me, 'She is my sister,' and didn't she also say, 'He is my brother'? I have done this with a clear conscience and clean hands.".... Early the next morning...Abimelech called Abraham in and said, "What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should not be done...What was your reason for doing this? Abraham replied, "I said to myself, 'There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife. Besides, she really is my sister, the daughter of my father though not of my mother; and she became my wife....Then Abimelech brought sheep and cattle and male and female slaves and gave them to Abraham, and returned Sarah his wife to him... To Sarah he said, "I am giving your brother a thousand shekels of silver. This is to cover the offence against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated." In every city that the incestuous couple went to Abraham received fair payment for the rights to Sarah his sister/bride. Throughout history this behaviour is known as prostitution and Abraham is acting as the pimp.

So Sarah really was the sister of Abraham, proving that the Father of Israel was not a liar. An, incestuous-wife-pimping-whoremonger, yes. But a liar, definitely not!
