Sex in the Bible

That the Bible is looked to as the source of "family values" is a very surprising fact. In the words of the anonymous author of the Testimony of Truth: "great is the blindness of those who read...." That these same people clamour for censorship of literature they deem to be obscene is ironic beyond words. Perhaps they should pay closer attention to their own "holy" book. By their own standards the Bible itself would disappear from schools, book stores, Churches and Synagogues. We don't have to look far to discover the r ampant eroticism, child abuse, prostitution, group sex, homosexuality, bestiality and much more throughout the pages of the Bible...

Most of us are familiar with the story of Lot and the destruction of Sodom. The homosexuality of the inhabitants of Sodom has become proverbial. When the angels of the Lord appear to destrroy the city the men of Sodom have their own plans for them. They say to Lot: "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them." Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing. Look, I have two daughters who have never slept with a man. Let me bring them out to you and you can do what you like with them. But don't do anything to these m en for they have come under the protection of my roof." (Genesis 19:6-10???) One has to hand it to Lot, he is a good host. Rather than see his guests raped by the mob, he is willing to hand his two virgin daughters over to them!

There is more to this: After escaping from Sodom, Lot and his two daughters hid in a cave in the mountains. One day the older daughter said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man around here to lie with us, as is the custom all over the earth. Let's get our father to drink wine and then lie with him and preserve our family line through our father." That night they got their father to drink wine, and the older daughter went in and lay with him. He was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up. The next day the older daughter said to the younger daughter, "Last night I lay with my father. Let's get him to drink wine again tonight, and you go in and lie with him so we can preserve our family line through our father. So they got their father to drink wine again that night also, and the younger daughter went in and lay with him. Again he was not aware of it when she lay down or when she got up" (Genesis 19:31-36???).

So both of Lot's daughters became pregnant by their father... A very compassionate act on the part of Lot's daughters, especially after their father was so quick to hand them over to the angry horde in exchange for the virgin behinds of the two angels. It is a little known fact that Hebrew Law permits a Father to prostitute or sell his daughter for marriage from the age three years and a day onwards.(Rush 1981) . As Lot was so drunk he couldn't remember fornicating with his own daughters, one is left wondering if, while in an intoxicated state he took it on his own initiative to sample the merchandise.

This is not the only incident of incest being preformed by the Patriarchs of the Bible...
